The Forty-ninth Session began with Panamon Cree prepared to address the Garis Triumvirate, in the Triumvirate Chamber high atop the Trappist Citadel.
The Peace of Panamon[edit]
The party was assembled in the bleachers overlooking the Garis Triumvirs in their council session. Asylkhan Kuandyk, reminded Zhannur Timurlan and Aizat Kamalbek of some past business, speaking in code-like phrases with numbers and acronyms undecipherable to any but those in the business of government.
Eventually Panamon Cree was invited to address the Triumvirate. He explained that the war was a drain on all of the resources of Otan, that peace was always the better way, and lastly that a unified Otan would be better prepared to face the Sewoch threat. The council was initially skeptical, save for Zhannur Timurlan who had witnessed Panamon's dreams.
Aizat Kamalbek, using her own special brand of magic, peered into Timurlan's thoughts to see the scope of this Sewoch threat. As Panamon spoke, he received warm feelings and good tidings from the blue Sewoch stones on his person, but he also received nods from Aizat Kamalbek. Eventually, though Aizat Kamalbek bristled at the idea of ceding any captured territory, the Triumvirate was resigned to the idea of seeking peace with Jalinjeri and its allies.
The Portal Opens[edit]
As Panamon and the Triumvirate spoke, Mira Nephilim was feeling a sense of "completion" in that something was about to be finished. This feeling was followed by the sudden visibility of a portal, such as the one the party took to Sewoch. A moment later the circle was full of the furry Washa Washa variety of Sewoch.
A fight ensued. Obsidian Black, with loud thoughts, caused a number of the invaders to lie prone. Some of the Sewoch seized the members of the Triumvirate, while others attacked the Garis guards. [Dastan Beket]] looked to the party for a mode of escape as the battle raged.
The portal flashed again, and the infirm Washa Washa and the three Triumvirs disappeared. Seeing no "win" Obsidian teleported the party away along with as many nearby Garis as possible to the airship facility outside of town. From there, they contacted Aspan Jurisi and indicated that the Garis government had been kidnapped... and... "What now?"
Aspan Jurisi agreed to let the party bring the herald Dastan Beket back to the fold and they determined the best course was to find leaders of the Akimsilik Region headquarters. They found this facility with Gulaisha Abzal now in charge. Gulaisha alluded to some bad experiences with humans before but accepted the peace resolution at Dastan's word.
The Battle for Trappist Citadel[edit]
Trappist Citadel remained the focus of attention as the party prepared to leave. The moon Hugenn was directly overhead and shone an intense beam at the structure, causing the upper levels to glow an intense green. As the facility continued to be overrun by Sewochi warriors, they were, in turn, being harassed by various Garis spellcasters who attacked wherever they could find an opening. Their efforts often met with disaster as the occasional wizard would drop from the sky.
Jalinbeti in Flames[edit]
When the party returned to Jalinbeti Citadel they were accosted by the heat and acrid smoke that filled every room. When they investigated the lower level of the citadel they found it strewn with numerous bodies that included the husks of Sewochi warriors, fallen citadel guards, and other hapless civilians.
The party found that the lower level of the citadel had endured such heat as to turn many of the rock walls to glass. The sensible among Hedgewind Jalinbeti's entourage knew to evacuate as many people as possible while he confronted the Sewochi invaders. The party found the newly formed teleportation circle... it had been destroyed in the heat.
In the research area where the Memes of Aspan were once assembled, there was nothing but bodies and ash. A near critically wounded First Nightshade of Aspan was found in the room, collecting up the Memes. She indicated that the Ninth Lotus of Aspan had fled the citadel along with her entourage and many civilians.
Obsidian Black asked the First Nightshade for the 'soul' Memes, but then thought again and asked her to keep them safe as he and Panamon prepared to teleport to the Towers of Eriquat. Mira Nephilim abandoned the basement to check on the fate of her adopted dragon.
Obsidian and Panamon looked for a trace of Hedgewind and were unable to find anything, not even a sample of his body, known as an "insurance policy". The Princess Svetlana Zhurek made an appearance and was also distressed that Hedgewind was missing. The First Nightshade of Aspan indicated that no one could have survived the heat generated from his 'last stand'.
Above, Jalinbeti Citadel was also infected with the green glow. This glow has the effect of preventing clerical or warlock magic from happening, theoretically damping the connections between spellcasters and their gods.
Note: Obsidian discovered a room with a mostly melted "water coffin" resembling that in his former afterlife dream.
Council of Ni... err... Six[edit]
With Obsidian's help, Panamon Cree returned to the Towers of Eriquat to see if he could learn anything about the day's events from the Council. The W'q'le were not present, however, the Sewochi council members were waiting for Panamon, still thinking he's Shardenzar Sardarbek, with great anticipation.
"The end has begun," they mentally projected to Panamon, as they consumed alcohol and laughed.
Once again they offered safe passage to Sewoch so that Panamon could witness the undoing of the W'q'le after the destruction of humanity was complete. Panamon did his best to assure them that the "game" was far from over.
