The dawn greeted our party as they awoke from their slumber in the abandoned temple of Woden. They decided to continue west into the pass as directed by their magical compass (provided previously by an associate of Hedgewind Jalinbeti]. It wasn't more than a few hours into their journey when they discovered what looked like the corner of a pseudo-stone construction jutting out from the ice.
Battling the Elements[edit]
Beneath the stone-like construction there was a playful looking set of windy wisps dancing about in some sort of a playful manner, kicking up puffs of snow and ice. The party, seeming to have caught them unawares, addressed them with a shout. They stopped their play, and aggressively started to make their way toward the party in all haste.
The party was soon in it's usual formation with the fighters up front and the support squad in the rear. The elementals, however, numbering one large air elemental and 5 ice mephits, had different ideas. While the mephits attacked the fighters, the air elemental swung around into the center of the party with it's incredible speed, landing upon Ebil Yalies and Ninon Salvo.
While Lirris Liadon, Raqim Anuar (and his owl) began to carve up the mephits, Ebil and Ninon did what they could against the air elemental, which proved to be quite vicious. Ninon retreated to nurse her wounds and eventually the rest of the party converged on the elemental as the last of the mephits exploded in a hail of ice shards.
Rest and Exploration[edit]
The party, now drained of most of its magic, opted for a short rest beneath the jutting out portion of the castle. The compass was going wild. This was clearly the lair of the sorceress Gulaisha Abzal. As the party searched for any treasure the elemental creatures might have been hoarding (besides an abundance of snow and ice), they did find a fissure in the ice wall. The fissure appeared to have recent tracks entering it of both human and Garis origin.
After their rest, the party followed the fissure into a room made of blocks of ice-like stone that appeared to be of some magical origin. Some watery tracks lead to a door at the north end of the room, which was only accessible by squeezing around a sheet of ice. Raqim Anuar used his mage hand to open the door. The next room appeared to contain a magical staircase.
The Trouble with Trolls[edit]
Behind the door, the party heard two booming voices evidently complaining about something... perhaps the door being opened. One of the giant voices moved to investigate what was behind the door and revealed itself to be a giant troll. Raqim replaced the open door with an illusion of the closed door, but eventually the confused troll pushed his head through the illusion, only to be greeted by a flurry of spells and arrows.
The volley which included a flask of burning oil caused the troll to fall back among his friends. Lirris Liadon crashed into the room to discover four of the creatures forming a wall to protect the door behind them. The party attacked furiously, Lirris with his sword and Raqim, with his flame breathing owl doing the most damage. Ornel Harlhome and Arisa Petrine pumped the beasts full of crossbow bolts from the rear, as did Ebil Yalies and Ninon Salvo.
As the trolls began to fall and crumble into piles of rocky stone, an emboldened Ninon Salvo jumped into the front line to give a troll an intimidating stab with her rapier. The last of the trolls fell, thanks in part to the unrelenting hail of crossbow bolts from the back of the party.
Completely drained of spells and energy, the party made plans to take a long rest. Is there any rest to be had here? What will happen next???
Stay tuned...
