In Wodenist lore, Jormungandr is also known as the Otan Serpent, a sea serpent said to surround the globe. Jormungandr is the middle child of a fabled giantess and the mischievous god Loki and brother to the wolf Fenris, and Hel, goddess of the underworld.

Depictions[edit]

Jormungandr is often depicted as ouroboros.

Lore[edit]

When he was young, Woden tossed the (then only large) Jormungandr into the great ocean that encircles Otan. The serpent grew so large that it was able to surround the Earth and grasp its own tail.[2] As a result, it received the name of World Serpent. When it releases its tail, Ragnarok will begin. Jormungandr's arch-enemy is the thunder-god, Thor.

Intercession[edit]
