Each of the seventeen governments of Otan has a military force at its disposal. In each case this military has the dual purpose of defending their national borders and people. Most nations also have an offensive capability according to the wishes of their leadership. Some militaries maintain offensive forces as a deterrent to aggression, some to support a national tradition, and others with the intent of one day becoming an aggressor.

The Garis military is designed for aggression. Ortalyk military

The Ortalyk military is a standard configuration made up of divisions consisting of infantry, bowmen, and cavalry. Special forces may include wizards and other oddities. Ortalyk's coast is defended by its navy and marines, the latter who can provide offensive forces to distant coastal objectives. Ortalyk does not posses air forces outside of dirigibles used by their signal corps.

The Ortalyk military is large, made up of 18 regular divisions, over 500 sea vessels and one special division dubbed The Tsar's Guard. The latter are hand picked soldiers from the other provincial regiments. Provincial divisions are recruited and organized by that province's Boyar. Each division not led by a [provincial Boyar is commanded by soldier of the rank of general. Naval divisions are led by an Admiral.
