The Temple of Woden is the bureaucracy behind the Wodenist religion. They are the keepers of the only copies of the Book of Woden and regularly train clerics and other Wodenist clergy to assist in the everyday lives of the citizens it serves. The principal clerics of the Temple of Woden are always at the pulse of local and national politics and it is an unwritten rule that they be invited to attend meetings where matters of state are involved. This is partly for Woden's blessing on state affairs and party because of the insistence of the church.
Membership[edit]
While millions on Otan may commend their meals, good fortunes or battles to Woden's name, the organization itself is made up of some 100,000 clerics. While the clergy is uniform in its philosophy worldwide, there are some variances in observances in different countries. These are noted as follows.
- Ortalyk - The temple is run from Kala Astanals and Ortalyk are generally considered the "authority" of the faith.
- Sigis - Eastern clerics prefer Tiw, with deference to his sacrifice and honour.
- Batis - Western clerics pay special deference to Eostre because of their national proclivity toward farming and animal husbandry.
- Soltustik - Northern clerics honour Thor, particularly for help with the weather.
- Ælfwode - The temple has a larger membership of druids than clerics in Ælfwode.
History[edit]
The Temple of Woden has existed since 1 IM and undoubtedly since well into prehistory. While they were mostly confined to Ortalyk in the first year, their popularity has spread to other nations.
Current Activities[edit]
The Temple of Woden is actively trying to expand into Araldar, Ontustik, Karazalik and even the League of Dwarven Miners. Wodenist clerics can be very persuasive proselytizers, with a knack for finding new acolytes in the most unlikely of places. There are often great rewards for clerics who establish followings (and eventually temples) in new and far-flung locations.
Wodenist clerics are also actively researching the relationship between ancient writings that may have been written by or created because of Woden's direct decree. These fragments of knowledge are said to have powers that exceed current clerical and druidical powers known on Otan today.
