Population
The Ungirsi Federation now stands at an estimated population of 1.6 million Ungir. The Ungir are famously difficult to take census on, thanks in part due to their subterranean nature. It is believed that they totalled some 5 million before the Grendel War. As natural allies to the Grendel they were the first over the border into Ortalyk and the first to pay the price of war with their lives.
Now in peacetime, the Ungir do have a knack for replenishing populations due to communal living and relaxed social mores which tend to keep the female Ungir in a continuous cycle of pregnancy and childbirth.
Few non-humans reside in the Ungirsi Federation. The Ungir tend to go out of their way to make non-humans feel unwelcome in their territory and with the exception of hardcore Kuulik traders, few are willing to put up with Ungir social life unless there is a huge profit to be made. Even the Aydahar, the closest cousins to the Ungir ultimately banished them from their own territory.
Geography
The Ungirsi Federation is centrally located and shares borders with the much reviled Ortalyk on the south, Ælfwode on the west and Grendeland on the north. The Ungir have access to the sea

Notable Landmarks
Politics
Every year during the Holy Week, the Ungirsi Office of the Assessor sends census takers around to the homes of those who wish to compete for political office. Participation is voluntary, but necessary for anyone to retain power. The assessors, will take an inventory of the candidate's personal hoard. The highest political offices are then awarded to those, who possess the largest hoard.
Candidates, offered a higher office may choose a lower office if they prefer. Candidates who expected a higher office may withdraw their candidacy completely, perhaps to spend time building their hoard for the following year. Close assessments may be challenged, for example if a candidate is accused of having counterfeit, jewels or coins. A challenger who makes a false challenge will be in forfeit of his hoard. A challenged hoard which is found to be partially counterfeit, will also be forfeited along with the life of the challenged.
Forfeited hoards are paid into the public treasury, managed by the Office of the Assessor, but used at the discretion of the victor of the contest who is granted the title of Fire Boss. The current Ungir Fire Boss is Daniar Erbolat, a progressive leader bent on rebuilding his war-torn nation and exacting revenge upon the Tsar of Otalysk, Batil Zhurek.
