Before dawn had a chance to break, a ruckus broke out in The Good Dog. Guests of the hotel were ordered to stay in their rooms. Panamon, opened his door a little to find a pistol pointed at his face. He closed the door but not before letting Tryx out of it (invisibly). Obsidian meanwhile, started to burn up his magic circle.
The hallway ruckus ended in the removal of the Wodenists Greef, Matteo and Abel from their rooms, dragged downstairs and pushed into a cagey looking cart, which was quickly hauled off by a pair of wolfen creatures. Panamon and Obsidian were summoned from their rooms by the hotel staff to inform them that someone was in the lobby to see them.
Charges Levelled
A uniformed officer began to read the following: "Under the accusatory eye of the Tumar Asylkhan, the High Priest of the Sanctum of Fenris, we are authorized to seize these conscripts into the service of the Garis Triumvirate."
The officer continued, "The ones known as Greef Roake, Matteo Alleman and Abyl Sarsen stand accused of the following charges:
- Espionage in the first degree
- Espionage in the third degree
- Conspiracy to commit espionage
- Heresy of the first order
- Heresy of the second order
- Conspiracy to incite riotous acts
- Conspiracy to incite treasonous acts"
Conscripts will be remanded indefinitely to the custody of of the Tumar Asylkhan, where they will be put to the question."
Foreign Exchange
But there was more, as officers bustled behind the speaking officer, he continued to recite: Tumar Asylkhan has issued this statement to their surviving cohorts: I am not a cruel man. Under provisions set forth in the Concord of Kala Astanals I offer a prisoner exchange. These prisoners have paid their debt to Garis society. Three for three. I entreat you to take yourselves and these former prisoners to a place outside of Garis territory at your first convenience. You will be granted one week to carry out this request."
Upon completion of his speech, he presented the three prisoners, taken some time earlier from the Garis Triumvirate border on suspicion of espionage. Lastly a box containing their belongings was also dropped off and the police officers departed.
A Fellowship is Forged
The forcibly cast together party sorted out their gear and met in the inn's tavern for a meal, where Panamon Cree and Obsidian Black explained their past, present and future objectives. As they lunched and the new party members took in the information, some messages arrived. The first was from the Captain Nursulu Ahmetzhan of the Qasiq, who informed the party that their boat would be ready today on schedule. The second was not signed, but obviously from Aspan Jurisi of the anti-war rebels.
It explained that the aspiring alderwoman Aijan Sabyrek had and altercation when her speech booking had been cancelled, leading to a confrontation with the Trappist Police. Aijan was already under investigation for inciting riot and the possibility of criminal charges may have all but tanked her political career.
Panamon Cree explained that the party was owed a "free teleport" by the rebels in exchange for their efforts. He could not explain why the party had two plans to leave the city, but concluded that they should examine both options.
If it Quacks Like a Dock
At the docks the party met up with the First Mate of the Qasiq. When asked if the ship could sail up-river rather than around the coast, the First Mate said that it would be possible, though only as far as red dragon territory, where the captain would not likely sail. He explained that the captain might agree to take them to the end of black dragon territory in Aydahar since their borders were relatively quiet and peaceful.
The First Mate assured the party that if the captain agreed to the new route that they would set sail for Aydahar this very day.
Magic is Not an Exact Science
The party received much praise for their efforts of the night before, exclaiming that the alderwoman's career in politics was certainly over. Unable to predict the future, the rebels did concede that the silencing of this voice might have the desired effect of delaying, if not indefinitely postponing a possible war.
When asked about the possibility of a teleportation spell, as negotiated previously, Aspan Jurisi said he would summon his wizard friend to complete the transaction. The wizard, also an Akimsilik by the name of Aru Sabirzhan began to explain the vagaries of teleportation magic. He explained that hitting an unknown target, in this case the city of Kazinasi had its risks... which included, missing the target, ending up half encased in rock, bouncing from the wrong target to another wrong target, etc. etc., sometimes resulting in death.
The party became uneasy with this explanation and asked if instead they could have a teleportation scroll to return them to this location. The wizard frowned, but agreed that would be much safer and said he could foreword the scroll to their location later in the day. The party agreed that location would be at the docks, as they prepared to board the Qasiq. Panamon handled the accounting for their stay in Trappist, pocketing enough Garis currency to pay for the hotels, the keep of the riding lizards, with change left over.
Lessons Learned On the River
New spells came to the imaginations of Panamon Cree and Obsidian Black as the party sailed upriver. The crew unloaded animals to tow the ship when there was no wind to carry it upstream and the progress was consistent for the two days travel.
