Hedgewind Jalinbeti is an accomplished wizard with a penchant for wielding flame. He is considered by friends and foes to be a true pyromaniac with a love for flames natural, magical and metaphorical. He is the founder and the current Governor of the rapidly growing town of Jalinbeti in eastern Ortalyk.
Early Career
Hedgewind Jalinbeti began his career as a rogue wizard, with a few flame spells and a strong desire to acquire power. He quickly honed his magical skills and achieved his first measure of power in a surprising turn of events in Balagash politics. There, he was named the Captain of the Guard of the Balagash City Guard, the second ranking official in Balagash after the governor. During this time he shortly resided in Balagash Keep.
Even with his many duties as Captain of the Guard, he maintained a great deal number of activities outside of his assigned position. He was rumoured to possess wealth well beyond his pay grade and would engage "associates" to carry out tasks for him on a regular basis. Even while he was in the employ of the Governor of Balagash he was laying the groundwork to establish a new town in Ortalyk some 60 miles east.
While many scoffed at Hedgewind's plans to try and build a town in the middle of nowhere, a miracle occurred. A fissure in a small mountain nearby the proposed site ruptured, creating a river that travelled all the way through and past Jalinbeti, eventually linking up with the mighty Astanals River. This Hedgewind and the town of Jalinbeti had a trade route to the capital of Kala Astanals.
Speculation and Rumor
In Jalinbeti, Hedgewind is constructing a huge citadel facing the river. To accomplish this project he has employed stone giants who have been hauling large slabs of rock from the nearby mountains, carving them with exquisite patterns and reliefs and setting them into the citadel walls.
For those who are knowledgeable of the Memes of Aspan there is further rumor that Hedgewind is not only in possession of one, but actively using it to increase his power in the region.
Future Aspirations
In his role as the Governor of Jalinbeti Hedgewind continues to attract people to his town by offering work to visiting adventurers and various other perks to those skilled tradespeople who move to Jalinbeti early.
