Legend tells that the first Ælfes were created by Woden the All-Father. They were placed in the woods to create progeny and expand their race. As their numbers grew, so did their taste for the aesthetic. For the Ælfes, beauty became the central goal to all culture. The ability to breed was dictated by the likelihood of attractive offspring. Those deemed unattractive soon found themselves unable to find a mate.

Because of the strict breeding rules dictated by Ælfen society, eventually rifts grew between them. These rifts only grew to eventually create variants of Ælfes. The first and most notable rift was that between light and dark skin. Those who believed the dark-skinned aesthetic to be superior were shunned by the light-skinned Ælfes and vice-versa.

Further, among the light skinned elves a rift engendered itself between those who believed that nature produced the highest of all aesthetics, while their rivals insisted that art, particularly Ælfen art was the highest of all aesthetics. These groups eventually formed themselves into what can only be described as sub-races, though their genetics are near identical; the High Ælfes, the Wood Ælfes and the Dark Ælfes.
