About Raqim[edit]

Raqim Anuar, third born of the Anuar family, is a young human, born and raised in Muz, the capital of the kingdom of Soltustik.
He presents himself as a tall guy in his early twenties, sporting long pale blond hairs, deep blue eyes, and fair skin.
He is always dressed in comfortable and well tailored robes, that shows both his original status from a wealthy merchant family, and his current job as a full time scholar.
He is often seen carrying a spellbook by his belt and accompanied by his familiar Wisp, a large gray owl.

Personality[edit]

Raqim's only focus is knowledge, he devoted his whole life to accumulating and investigating lore of any kind.
He usually spends more time with books rather than with people, making his social abilities quite lacking in several departments. He is not cold by any mean, he deals with people constantly while carrying on his duties as a librarian or as an agent searching for particular tomes, he is just not extremely valid in reading social situations that strays from scholarly circles.
Despite his love for order within a library, he is not particularly influenced by the law or lack thereof outside of it. He can easily develop a strong attachment to the few people he manages to create a bond with. His moral compass points often to the benefit of the people he is close to or to the knowledge itself as an abstract concept. He has absolutely no problem in violating the law when the well being of his friends or relatives, or of special tomes and ancient lore, is at stake, but he refrains from violence when not strictly necessary, opting, when possible, for a pacific settlement.

Special Abilities[edit]

He started early in his life to study knowledge of any kind known to men, relying heavily on his memory and his cryptic notes to keep track of all he learned.
During his apprenticeship he sharpened his mental acuity to the point of developing natural telekinetic abilities.
By delving deeply into the arcane lore, and with the assistance of the Archivist Almiriel, he learned wizardry. His love for the written word is so strong that it started to affect his style of magic more and more over time. After long years of studies and researched, he enriched his spellbook with special inks and magical treatments, awakening an arcane conscience that he named "Sophos", bound to his own mind and allowing him to evolve a particular link to the knowledge within the book itself.
Due to his fear of the damage that uncontrolled fire might wreck upon a collection of books, Raqim learned how to adjust the elemental balance in his magic, twisting the nature of the spells he weaves with quick on-the-fly changes, to shift the elemental influence toward a more likeable and less threatening element.
He refrains from using material weapons of any kind and relies solely on the strength of his spells and his knowledge.

Future Aspirations[edit]

Raqim's love for books goes beyond the mere adoration of the physical tomes and extends deeply into the worship of knowledge in its purest form. His aim is not to just recover books and amass them, he wishes to learn as much as he could from them to deepen his wisdom.
His curious nature drives him to investigate the nature of reality itself, ultimately seeking to unravel the mysteries that keep in motion all that exists.
He simply wants to discover the hidden truths of the whole world. Is that too much to desire?

Backstory[edit]

The Anuar family has established themselves in Muz over twelve generations ago, starting as humble traders and evolving over time as a respected merchant family. Traditionally every generation passes upon the heirs their whole trade business over time, usually selecting one as the leading figure and allowing the others to either assist in this matter or find other profitable sources of income. It has happened in the past that brothers and sisters maintained the trading together quite successfully, but more often one of the kids eventually gets more interested than the others an takes the lead.
In Raqim’s generation, the business is being passed upon Kerit, the older sister, deemed particularly good with appraising goods, striking deals and scouting new profitable marketing options. Some might call her a “shark”, but that is just what envious people thinks, the family call her “a wonderful merchant”. Dorik, the second son, opted out of the trading business and pursued a successful career as a mercenary, putting into use his sharp senses and skills with weapons. Raqim found his little niche as a scholar, devolving years of his youth to study books and learning traditional wizardry. The only rule within the family is to pursue one’s interest successfully, it doesn’t matter which career any member choose as long as they become “someone” in that field.
After many years just learning and absorbing knowledge, assisted by his master, finally Raqim showed a prominent talent toward magic and expanded it to the point of being able to use it to sustain his interest in books and also have financial independency from the family, which is considered a mandatory requirement to not be a disgrace and mildly (or harshly, depends on the relative) criticized at any family meeting by the oldest members of the family.
Raqim is currently working as a scholar to upkeep a well renown library, the Great Northern Archive, and as an agent to recover ancient tomes for the same establishment, picking up the odd mercenary job where his magic skill can be put to good use.
