The Tsar's principal division of hand-picked soldiers. Made up largely of cavalry, the Tsar's Guard provide a collection of unique roles not suited to the nation's other military divisions. These roles include:
- Guardianship of the Tsar - Perhaps the principal role of this division is to ensure the safety and protection of the Tsar. This involves both overt and clandestine activity to divine the identity and intentions of those who would bring harm to the Tsar.
- Enforcement of the Tsar's Justice - Smaller battalions or brigades of the Tsar's Guard might ride out to other regions of Ortalyk to assist in administering justice, particularly when that justice might prove contentious with local observers.
- Border Patrol - Under the Concord of Kala Astanals, the Tsar's Guard will provide extra patrols to ensure the integrity of Ortalyk's extensive borders. They also check coastal and border trade zones to ensure that undue numbers of Ungir, Kuulik, Grendel or Aydahar do not end up on Ortalyk soil, whether by permit or skirting the preview of border patrols. This is done for two reasons, first, to prevent the possibility of a surprise military attack from within, and second, to make sure that trade goods do not enter Ortalyk without the proper taxes being levied.
